Yesterday was a very special day for Our Lady's G.N.S. We had our Global Citizenship Litter and Waste flag raising ceremony. We were honoured to have Catherine Martin T.D from the Green Party to raise our flag. Mrs Lane opened the ceremony welcoming everybody to our special event. The Junior Infants directed by Mrs Molony sang a wonderful international song with greetings in many languages. Well done girls! Then we had our international parade, lead by Ms Sharkey's samba band playing fantastic samba rhythms. The band then gave a fabulous rhythmic performance conducted by Ms Sharkey.
Representatives from the Green Schools Committee then spoke about all the hard but enjoyable work, that the committee and the whole school have been doing over the last few years, to get our Global Citizenship Litter and Waste flag. Fourth class sang 'Ceannaigh agus díol Fairtrade' and a 'Climate Change' rap, both composed by Ms Sharkey.
Then the moment came....Catherine Martin spoke to the whole school about the importance of being aware of our environment and all the ways in which we can work together to make a change. She congratulated us on all our work and this wonderful achievement. Catherine then raised our Green Flag to some samba drum rolls. We all clapped and cheered and sang our 'Global Citizenship' song composed by Ms Sharkey.
This was a very special day for Our Lady's and to top it off.....the weather was glorious!!!!!
Have a wonderful Summer and remember to ......Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
